Amy had her first real lesson at Hayfield EC in Aberdeen when she was 8 years old. From that day on she was hooked! She progressed working at Hayfield for free lessons and when she was studying she rode on the University Teams, working fulltime in the summer holidays too. The day after her final Uni exam she started working as a trainee instructor at Hayfield.
Amy is the yard manager at Strathorn Farm Stables, a BHS Riding and Road Safety trainer & assessor and BHS Intermediate Instructor. Amy has UKCC level 3 in coaching and is also an SVQ Assessor up to level 3 and therefore spends a great deal of time student training for both the SVQ and BHS qualifications up to the BHSII.
She teaches freelance for pony clubs and also does clinics for livery yards as well as teaching private clients in her spare time. She has competed British Dressage at Elementary level, British Show Jumping at 1.05m and British Eventing at Novice level with her horse Dollar. She now competes with her young horse Fabia and hopes she will follow Dollar up the ranks and beyond.
This year she has received a scholarship from the BHS to train for her BHSI (British Horse Society Instructor).

What made you choose to come and work at Strathorn Farm?
“Last year, I went on a college trip for six days to experience horseback riding with Clydesdales and then I found out that I had an opportunity to come back and work. I did so and it was initially only supposed to be for four months but I came back again! The experience has been great – everybody working here are a group of positive people and even though we are all of different age groups it doesn’t feel like it. You can truly be yourself here.” /Jenna
